Australian actors Chris Hemsworth and Ryan Kwanten are the toast of their native country – they will receive the top honors at an upcoming awards show to celebrate Aussie stars in Hollywood.

The Breakthrough Awards, organized by the Australians In Film association, is designed to recognized the achievements of stars from Down Under who are carving out careers in the American entertainment industry.

Hemsworth, who will appear in upcoming superhero blockbuster “Thor, and “True Blood” star Kwanten will follow in the footsteps of other actors including Sam Worthington, Mia Wasikowska, Isla Fisher and Abbie Cornish, who are all previous winners.

The event, which will take place in Los Angeles on May 13, will also see the announcement of the 2010 winner of the Heath Ledger Scholarship – a sum of $10,000 plus return airfare from Australia which will be awarded to one emerging Aussie to help pursue a career in the U.S.

Dennings calls the rumors about Anthony Hopkins complaining about Chris Hemsworth’s acting “1000 percent false,” and calls Hemsworth “incredible” as Thor.

Comic book fans are always hesitant (and more than a little critical) about movies based on their favorite characters and storylines, so when a rumor started spreading that Sir Anthony Hopkins, who will play Odin in director Kenneth Branagh’s live-action Thor movie, was a tyrant on the set, critical of the acting ability of the title star, Chris Hemsworth, panic started to spread throughout the internet. Hopkins refuted the rumors, and now one of the stars of Thor, Kat Dennings has also weighed in on the rumor.

In a phone interview with MovieWeb, Dennings said that she was three weeks into production on Thor, with three more weeks to go, and that the rumors couldn’t be further from the truth: Read the rest of this entry »

The next 2 info is via comicbookmovie.com. We know previously from director Kenneth Branagh that they were filming THOR in Santa Fe, New Mexico. ET’s Kevin Frazier tweeted about visiting the set which apparently was literally in the middle of nowhere…

“Just landed on the secret set of Thor, and when I say we are in the middle of nowhere, I mean nowhere!!!”

“Can you say dust, bad scene for my electronics and my white Sneaks, but Chris Hemsworth is great! Just sat down” Read the rest of this entry »

While some Marvel film projects remain unclear as to how true they will stay to their source, actor Chris Hemsworth, star of the upcoming Thor, revealed in an interview with Access Hollywood that fans of the Asgardian god of thunder have nothing to worry about in terms of the film grossly straying from the character’s four-color origins.

“I have a long blonde wig and a nice big red cape and all sorts of armor and interesting bits and pieces. I have the hammer {too}. It’s pretty true to the comics,” said the actor. In taking it a step further from just Thor’s appearance, Hemsworth mentioned that, “There’s so many different versions of the comic books, they’ve sort of bonded quite a few of them to form this particular story, but it’s all very true to the original stuff.” He went on to say that the movie was over thee-fourths of the way finished, and that fans will not be disappointed in the Kenneth Branagh-directed film, which will pit Thor against his arch-nemesis, the god of mischief, Loki.

The film is set to be released on May 6th, 2011.

In this day of cookie-cutter thrillers and Hollywood formula flicks, writer/director Stephen Milburn Anderson and producer Naveen Chathappuram bring us a film that shatters genre rules.

It’s a story about the power of money and how it manipulates human behavior. In a movie manufactured by Hollywood groupthink, this film would have been about two innocent victims (Sam and Leslie) who struggle to make their mortgage payments and one day, during a police chase, a briefcase bursting with cash lands on their old car, they decide to keep the money and the bad guy comes looking for it. It would be the naive couple’s story.

But Ca$h isn’t that simple. The story starts with Pyke Kubic (Sean Bean), a Brit flying into Chicago to help out his twin brother, Reese (Sean Bean), whose cash-laden briefcase collided with law-abiding Sam’s car. So Ca$h is a brother loyalty story. Besides, the brothers make a business deal: Pyke will recover Reese’s cash and they’ll split it 50/50. Read the rest of this entry »

HOLLYWOOD heavyweight Sir Anthony Hopkins is reportedly causing drama on the set of his latest film, Thor, complaining about his “inexperienced” Australian co-star.

An on-set source tells the NY Daily News the Oscar winner is acting like quite the “divo” by constantly trying to “direct” Chris Hemsworth – the brother of Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend Liam – who stars as the title character (and Hopkins’ son) in the comic-book-based film.

“Anthony has not tried to hide his disapproval of Chris’ acting skills,” the insider says. Read the rest of this entry »

Is the Buffy and Firefly creator finally going to make a superhero movie?

Is Joss Whedon the man to bring The Avengers to the big screen? That’s the word on the street today — and this is not an April Fool’s Day joke according to the site that’s reporting it, so let’s go with it…

According to IESB’s sources, Whedon — the man behind the beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly TV series, of course — is on Marvel’s the short list for helmers they want to bring the team-up of Cap, Thor, Iron Man and the rest to the multiplex. Read the rest of this entry »
